Total transmission and distribution losses (T&D losses) are the canaries in the coal mines – they are the primary indicator by which you can quickly judge the financial and operational health of an electricity utility. In brief, T&D losses represent the amount of electricity produced and injected into the grid but not paid for by users due to technical inefficiencies and to theft, meter tampering, and billing and accounting errors.
